Overview

Wayne Lee Madsen (born 2 January 1984) is a South African-born Italian sportsman best known for his career in professional cricket. He is a right-handed batsman who also bowls occasional right-arm off spin. Before establishing himself as a cricketer, Madsen represented the South Africa men's national field hockey team, balancing the two sports earlier in his career.

Madsen began his senior playing days in domestic cricket in South Africa before moving to England, where he joined Derbyshire County Cricket Club. He has represented Derbyshire in English county cricket since 2009, becoming a long-serving member of the side across formats. Alongside his county commitments, he has also featured in franchise cricket competitions.

In 2023, Madsen made his debut for the Italy national cricket team, having qualified to represent the country as a citizen by descent. His selection added international experience to a squad working towards higher honours in associate-level cricket. With his background spanning hockey and cricket, and playing careers in South Africa, England and now Italy, Madsen's sporting journey reflects a varied multinational pathway.
