Vraj Patel is a Kenyan cricketer who plays for the Kenya national cricket team. A slow left-arm orthodox bowler, he made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut in September 2021 and has since been a regular member of Kenya's squad in International Cricket Council (ICC) qualifying tournaments.

Career

International debut

Patel made his T20I debut for Kenya on 11 September 2021, against Nigeria, in a tri-nation tournament. The match marked his entry into international cricket as a specialist slow left-arm orthodox bowler.

2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier

In November 2021, Patel was named in Kenya's squad for the Africa qualifier of the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, which was held in Rwanda. During the tournament, he produced one of the standout performances of his career by taking a five-wicket haul in Kenya's fixture against Nigeria. Kenya won the match by 60 runs, and Patel was adjudged the player of the match.

Series against Nepal

In August 2022, Patel was included in Kenya's squad for the home bilateral series against Nepal.

2024 T20 World Cup qualifying pathway

In November 2022, Patel was part of the Kenya squad for the Africa A qualifier tournament of the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. In Kenya's opening fixture of the 2022–23 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier against Rwanda, he took 1 wicket for 33 runs.

Significance

As a left-arm orthodox spinner, Patel forms part of Kenya's bowling attack during a period in which the side has been competing in the regional pathway tournaments organised by the ICC for qualification to global Twenty20 events. His five-wicket haul against Nigeria in the 2022 Africa Qualifier remains among his notable performances at the international level.
