Overview

Vivek Anand Oberoi (born 3 September 1976) is an Indian actor and businessman who works primarily in Hindi cinema, with later forays into South Indian cinema. The son of veteran actor Suresh Oberoi, he made his screen debut in 2002 and is known for combining mainstream commercial roles with character-driven supporting performances.

Oberoi was born into a film family; his father, Suresh Oberoi, is an established Hindi film actor. He entered the industry as a leading man in the early 2000s.

Career

Debut and early acclaim (2002)

Oberoi began his acting career in 2002 with starring roles in two prominent Hindi films: Ram Gopal Varma's crime drama Company and Shaad Ali's romantic drama Saathiya. His performances in both were widely praised, and his work in Company earned him two Filmfare Awards.

Mid-2000s work

He followed his debut with intermittent commercial successes, including the comedy Masti (2004), the horror film Kaal (2005) and the action film Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007). During the same period, his supporting performances in the dramas Omkara (2006) and Kurbaan (2009) drew critical appreciation.

Resurgence in 2013

After a phase of commercial decline, Oberoi returned to box-office success in 2013 with two sequels: the adult comedy Grand Masti and the superhero film Krrish 3.

Expansion into South Indian cinema

From the late 2010s onwards, Oberoi expanded his work into South Indian film industries, frequently playing antagonists in action films. His credits in this phase include:
