Overview

Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari (VSKU) is a public university located in the Ballari district of Karnataka, India. It was established in 2010 by the Government of Karnataka under the Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000. The university is named after Krishnadevaraya, a former emperor of the Vijayanagara Empire.

Prior to attaining independent status, VSKU functioned as a post graduate centre of Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi. It became an autonomous university in 2010 and marked its decennial ceremony on 27 July 2020. The university exercises academic jurisdiction over three districts: Ballari, Koppal and Vijayanagara.

The main campus, known as Jnana Sagara, is situated at Vinayaka Nagar in Ballari and is spread over approximately 95.37 acres. It houses the principal administrative offices of the university along with 19 post graduate departments offering 21 post graduate programmes. The campus serves as the central hub for teaching, research and administration.

In addition to the main campus, VSKU operates three post graduate centres. One of these is located at Nandihalli in Sandur tehsil of Ballari district, which offers 10 post graduate programmes. The other two centres are situated in Koppal district: the Koppal centre, established in 2016, offers 10 post graduate programmes, while the Yelburga centre, established in 2017, offers 7 post graduate programmes.
