Overview
Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Burla (VSSUT) is a state university located in Burla, Sambalpur, in the Indian state of Odisha. It was established in 1956 as the University College of Engineering, Burla (UCE Burla), and is regarded as the oldest engineering college in Odisha.
The institution functioned as the University College of Engineering, Burla for several decades before being conferred the status of a unitary university by the Government of Odisha. Following this resolution, its name was officially changed from UCE Burla to Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology on 10 June 2009. The university is named after Veer Surendra Sai, a freedom fighter from the Sambalpur region.
In 2012, VSSUT was declared eligible to receive central assistance under Section 12B of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, making it eligible for grants and funding routed through the University Grants Commission. The university offers programmes in engineering and technology and continues to operate as a state university under the Government of Odisha.
