Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University (VMSBUTK), commonly referred to as Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU), is a state public university located in Dehradun, the capital of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Background
The university was established by the Government of Uttarakhand to consolidate and regulate technical higher education in the newly formed state, which was carved out of Uttar Pradesh in November 2000. Prior to its establishment, technical institutions in the hill state were affiliated to universities in Uttar Pradesh. The creation of a dedicated technical university allowed Uttarakhand to standardise curricula, conduct unified examinations and coordinate admissions for engineering and allied programmes within its territory.
The institution was later renamed in honour of Veer Madho Singh Bhandari, a historical military figure from the Garhwal region, reflecting the state government's policy of recognising regional historical personalities through public institutions.
