Background
Aaron was born in Jamshedpur into a Tamil Christian family. He attended Loyola School in Jamshedpur, where he initially showed interest in cricket as a batsman before gravitating to fast bowling. He was identified through the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai, the academy founded by Dennis Lillee that has shaped many Indian fast bowlers.
Domestic career
Aaron made his first-class debut for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. He drew national attention during the 2010–11 season when he was recorded bowling at speeds touching 152 km/h in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match, one of the fastest deliveries by an Indian bowler. The performance accelerated his selection into the senior India squad. He later moved to play for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy.
International career
Aaron was first picked for India during the 2011 home series against England, making his ODI debut in October 2011. His Test debut came in November 2011 against the West Indies in Mumbai. He toured Australia in the 2011–12 season but was hampered by recurring back and stress fracture injuries that disrupted his early career.
After lengthy rehabilitation, he returned to the Indian side for the 2014 tour of England, where he played a series of Tests and contributed pace and reverse swing to the bowling attack. Persistent injuries limited his appearances thereafter, and he focused on franchise and domestic cricket.
Indian Premier League
Aaron has been part of multiple IPL franchises, beginning with the Delhi Daredevils. He subsequently played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals across various seasons, valued primarily for his ability to generate raw pace in the powerplay overs.
Style and significance
Aaron is regarded as among the genuinely express pacers produced by Indian cricket, alongside contemporaries such as Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami. He is known for a slingy, high-arm action and a hit-the-deck approach. His career has often been cited in discussions on workload management for Indian fast bowlers, given the significant time he lost to back stress fractures and other injuries.
