Valliammai Engineering College is situated along the Chennai–Tiruchirappalli National Highway (NH-32, formerly NH-45) on the southern outskirts of Chennai. The campus lies in the Kattankulathur–Potheri belt, a region that has emerged as one of Tamil Nadu's most prominent education clusters, with several engineering colleges, medical institutions and research centres in the vicinity. The college caters primarily to students from Tamil Nadu, while also drawing applicants from other Indian states.

The institution functions under the management of the Valliammai Society, an educational trust associated with the SRM family of institutions, which also runs SRM Institute of Science and Technology and several allied schools and colleges.

Academics

Admissions

Admission to undergraduate engineering programmes is conducted through the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) process, which allots seats on the basis of Class XII marks in the relevant subjects, following Government of Tamil Nadu reservation norms. A portion of seats is filled under the management quota by the institution. Admission to postgraduate engineering programmes is generally based on GATE scores or the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET), while M.B.A. and M.C.A. admissions are typically based on TANCET and the state's centralised counselling.
