Overview
Veeranna Somanna, commonly known as V. Somanna, is an Indian politician serving as Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and represents Karnataka in national politics.
Somanna held the portfolios of Housing and Infrastructure Development in the Government of Karnataka from 4 August 2021 to 13 May 2023. He served as a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Govindraj Nagara constituency between May 2018 and 13 May 2023. Earlier, on 10 June 2016, he was re-elected to the Karnataka Legislative Council, securing 31 votes of BJP MLAs.
In March 2024, the BJP announced Somanna as its candidate for the Tumkur Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 General Elections. He won the seat and was subsequently inducted into the Union Council of Ministers as Minister of State, with charge of Railways and Jal Shakti.
