VIT-AP University, formally Vellore Institute of Technology, Andhra Pradesh, is a state private university located at Farrukhabad in Amaravati, the capital region of Andhra Pradesh, India. It was established in 2017 as an extension of the Vellore Institute of Technology system, and offers programmes across undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, dual-degree and research streams.

Background

The university was set up by the Vellore Institute of Technology, a higher education group originally based in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, as part of its expansion beyond its parent campus. Andhra Pradesh's decision to develop Amaravati as its new capital created a policy environment in which several private universities were invited to establish campuses in the region.

Establishment

VIT-AP University was constituted under the Andhra Pradesh Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2016, which provided the legal framework for the entry of private universities into the state. The university commenced operations in 2017 at its campus in Farrukhabad, within the Amaravati capital region.
