Overview
Uttarakhand Open University (Hindi: उत्तराखण्ड मुक्त विश्वविद्यालय) is a public state open university located in Haldwani in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It was established through an Act of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly on 31 October 2005, with a mandate to provide accessible higher education across the state through the open and distance learning mode.
The university is recognised by the Distance Education Bureau of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is listed by the Association of Indian Universities. As a state open university, it caters to learners who pursue education while balancing other personal or professional commitments, including students in the hill districts of Uttarakhand.
Uttarakhand Open University offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes. In addition, it offers PhD degrees; in line with directions issued by the UGC, doctoral programmes at the university are conducted on a full-time basis rather than through the distance mode.
