Malayalam cinema
Menon recorded songs for several leading Malayalam composers, including M. G. Radhakrishnan, Raveendran, Johnson and Ouseppachan. His Malayalam discography includes melodic numbers in romantic and devotional film situations, and he has been a regular voice in stage shows organised across Kerala and the Gulf countries.
Tamil cinema
His Tamil film career gained significant momentum through his work with Ilaiyaraaja. He went on to sing for A. R. Rahman, including in the film Bombay (1995), where his rendition of "Kannalanae" (the Tamil version of the song picturised on Manisha Koirala) became widely popular. He also worked extensively with Vidyasagar, Deva and other Tamil composers through the 1990s and 2000s.

Menon has recorded in Telugu and Kannada films, often with the same composers who worked across South Indian industries. He has also sung the occasional Hindi track, including dubbed versions of his Tamil hits.
