Overview

The University of Jammu, informally known as Jammu University (JU), is a public university located in Jammu. It was established in 1969 through an act of the state legislature, which reorganised the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir University into two separate institutions: the University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir.

The main campus of the university is situated at the foothills of the Trikuta range, on the banks of the Tawi River. To extend access to higher education across the region, the university has set up seven off-site campuses at Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Poonch, Reasi, Ramnagar, Kathua and Udhampur.

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across a range of disciplines. In addition to teaching and research conducted at its own campuses, it affiliates and recognises colleges in its jurisdiction.

The University of Jammu has been accredited with an A++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It is also noted as the first university in India to receive ISO-9001 certification.
