Overview
Universal AI University is a private university located in Karjat, in the Mumbai metropolitan region of Maharashtra, India. It is described as India's first private university dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI), specialising in academic programmes that embed AI within their curricular design.
The institution was originally founded in 2009 as Universal Business School. It attained university status in 2023, following the enactment of the Universal AI University, Karjat Act, 2022 by the Maharashtra state legislature. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Universal AI University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across a range of disciplines, with artificial intelligence integrated into the structure of its courses. It is noted as India's first dedicated AI university and the third such university in the world.
