Geography

Ujhani lies on the alluvial plain between the Ganga and Ramganga rivers, characteristic of the Rohilkhand belt. The terrain is largely flat and fertile, supporting intensive cultivation. The town is situated on the road network linking Budaun, the district headquarters, with Bareilly and other parts of western Uttar Pradesh.

Administration

Civic affairs in the town are managed by a nagar palika parishad (municipal board), which oversees local services such as sanitation, water supply, street lighting, and the regulation of markets. For revenue and general administration, Ujhani falls under the Budaun district administration, which is in turn part of the Bareilly division.

Economy

The local economy is primarily agrarian, with sugarcane, wheat, paddy, and pulses being the principal crops grown in the surrounding countryside. Ujhani functions as a market town (mandi) where agricultural produce from nearby villages is aggregated and traded. Small-scale manufacturing, retail trade, and services associated with the agricultural hinterland form the rest of the local economy.

Transport

Ujhani is connected by road to Budaun and to other towns in the Bareilly and Aligarh regions. Rail connectivity in the area is provided by the broad-gauge network of Indian Railways serving Rohilkhand, with onward connections to Bareilly and Lucknow. The nearest major airport with scheduled commercial services is at Lucknow.

Demographics and culture

The population of Ujhani is religiously mixed, with Hindu and Muslim communities both forming a substantial share. Hindi is the principal language of administration and education, while Urdu also has a long-standing local presence. Festivals such as Holi, Diwali, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha are widely observed.
