Overview
Uddhav Bal Thackeray (born 27 July 1960) is an Indian politician who served as the 19th Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 2019 to 2022. During the same period, he also held the position of Leader of the House in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He has been a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council since 2020.
Thackeray has been the president of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance since 2019. Within his party, he served as the working president of the Shiv Sena from 2003 to 2013, and as its leader (pramukh) from 2013 to 2022. Following organisational changes, he has served as the president of Shiv Sena (UBT) since 2022.
He was the editor-in-chief of Saamana, the party-affiliated newspaper, from 2006 to 2019. According to a survey conducted across 13 Indian states during his tenure as Chief Minister, he was ranked as the most popular Chief Minister.
