Tumkur University is a state public university located in Tumakuru (formerly Tumkur), Karnataka, India. It was established by the Government of Karnataka to serve as the affiliating and teaching university for higher education institutions in the Tumakuru district. Background

Before the formation of Tumkur University, colleges in the Tumakuru region were affiliated to Bangalore University. With the rapid growth in the number of higher education institutions in the district, a separate university was constituted to administer affiliation, examinations, and research activities locally. The university's main campus is situated in Tumakuru, a city about 70 kilometres north-west of Bengaluru along the Bengaluru–Pune highway corridor.
