Following the formation of the state of Telangana in 2014, the university came under the higher education administration of the new state government and continued its role as a regional university serving Nizamabad and adjoining areas.

Telangana University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes across faculties such as arts, sciences, commerce, social sciences, and management. It functions both as a teaching university through its on-campus departments and as an affiliating university for a network of degree colleges in its jurisdiction.

The main campus at Dichpally houses academic departments, administrative offices, libraries, hostels, and student facilities. Nizamabad, the host city, is one of the major urban centres of north Telangana and a district headquarters.
