Background
Srivastava was born and brought up in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a city with a long cricketing tradition centred on Green Park Stadium. He came through age-group cricket in Uttar Pradesh and progressed into the state's senior set-up while still in his teens.
Under-19 career
Srivastava was one of the leading batsmen for India in the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in Malaysia. The Indian side, captained by Virat Kohli, beat South Africa in the final at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur to win the title. Srivastava contributed substantially with the bat through the tournament and was among the team's most consistent run-scorers, finishing as one of the top scorers of the competition.
Domestic career
At domestic level, Srivastava represented Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy and other senior tournaments organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He played first-class, List A and Twenty20 matches for the state, batting mostly in the top order. Despite early promise following the Under-19 success, he did not progress to the senior India team, and his domestic appearances tapered off in the years that followed.
Indian Premier League
Srivastava was associated with the Kings XI Punjab franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the 2008 Under-19 World Cup. His IPL appearances were limited, and he did not establish himself as a regular in the playing eleven.
Significance
Srivastava is remembered chiefly as part of the 2008 Under-19 World Cup-winning generation of Indian cricketers, several of whom — including Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Manish Pandey — went on to play international cricket for India. His career is often cited as an example of a highly rated junior cricketer whose transition to the senior international level did not materialise, a recurring theme in Indian domestic cricket.
