Background

Tyagi was born in Bulandshahr in western Uttar Pradesh and rose through the state's age-group ranks. His ability to generate pace and movement with the new ball brought him into the Uttar Pradesh senior side in the Ranji Trophy, where he developed as a frontline seam bowler.

Domestic career

Tyagi has been a regular member of the Uttar Pradesh squad in the Ranji Trophy and other domestic competitions organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He has played first-class, List A and Twenty20 matches in the Indian domestic circuit, primarily as a strike bowler in the seam-bowling attack.

Indian Premier League

Tyagi was part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad in the Indian Premier League, the franchise led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coached by Stephen Fleming. He featured in the IPL during the period in which CSK established itself as one of the most successful teams in the tournament.

International career

Tyagi made his One Day International debut for India during the 2009–10 season. He was picked as part of India's pace-bowling reserves at a time when the senior bowling unit included Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and Praveen Kumar. His international appearances were limited, and he did not establish a long-term place in the side.

Style and significance

A right-arm fast-medium bowler, Tyagi was valued for his pace through the air and his ability to swing the new ball. His selection reflected the BCCI's policy during the late 2000s of expanding the pool of seam bowlers by drawing on performers from the domestic circuit, particularly from cricketing centres in Uttar Pradesh.
