Overview

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University is a private university located in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, India. It was established under the Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Act (Punjab State Act 20/2008) and is recognised by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

The setting up of the university at Fatehgarh Sahib, a site associated with Sikh martyrdom, was announced by Sardar Prakash Singh Badal, the then Chief Minister of Punjab, during the fourth centenary celebrations marking the compilation and the first installation of Sri Adi Granth Sahib in 2004.

The university takes its name from Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the central scripture of the Sikh tradition, and is situated in a town of considerable historical significance within Sikh heritage.
