Overview

Sreelekha Mitra (born 30 August 1972) is an Indian actress, director and politician known for her work in Bengali cinema and television. Over the course of her career, she has received a BFJA Award and an Anandalok Award, among other honours.

Mitra began her acting career with the Bengali television series Balikar Prem, directed by Dulal Lahiri. She rose to prominence playing Nabanita in the 1996 Bengali TV series Trishna, directed by Anindya Sarkar. Her breakthrough on the big screen came with Basu Chatterjee's Hothat Brishti (1998), which was a major box-office success. She has since featured in films such as Kantatar (2006), Aschorjo Prodip (2013), Swade Ahlade (2015), Choukath (2015), Rainbow Jelly (2018) and Mayanagar (2021).

For her role as Sudha in Bappaditya Bandopadhyay's Kantatar (2006)—an illegal immigrant moving from one man to another and from one religion to another in search of love—Mitra received the BFJA Award and the Anandalok Award. In 2011, she won the Big Bangla Movie Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Mahanagar@Kolkata (2010), directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay. The following year she received the Zee Bangla Gourav Samman for Best Supporting Actress for Uro Chithi (2011), and she was nominated for the Filmfare Award and the Zee Bangla Gourav Samman for Ashchorjyo Prodeep (2013). She was further acclaimed for her work in Raja Dasgupta's Choukaath (2016) and made her Bollywood debut in Reema Mukherjee's Ardhangini Ek Ardhsatya (2016).
