Background

The Sree Buddha Educational Society was established to promote education in Kerala in the tradition associated with the social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, and runs a number of educational institutions including the older Sree Buddha College of Engineering at Pattoor in Alappuzha district. The Elavumthitta campus was set up to extend technical education to students of the Pathanamthitta region of central Kerala, an area otherwise dependent on engineering colleges in adjoining districts such as Kollam, Kottayam and Alappuzha.

Academics

The college offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes in core engineering disciplines, typically including Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Admissions to undergraduate programmes are made through the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala, with seats allotted under government and management quotas as per state norms.

The curriculum, examinations and award of degrees follow the regulations of the A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technological University, which was constituted in 2014 and brought most self-financing engineering colleges in Kerala under a single university framework.

Campus and location

The campus is situated at Elavumthitta, a town on the Pathanamthitta–Punalur route in Pathanamthitta district. The location places it within commuting distance of Adoor, Pathanamthitta, Konni and Kottarakkara, and it draws students primarily from central Travancore.

Significance

As one of the engineering colleges in Pathanamthitta district, the institution contributes to local access to technical higher education and to the network of self-financing engineering colleges that expanded in Kerala from the late 1990s onward. It is part of the wider group of institutions associated with the Sree Buddha Educational Society in Kerala.
