Overview

Sophie Frances Monique Devine (born 1 September 1989) is a New Zealand sportswoman who has represented her country in both cricket and field hockey. She has played for the New Zealand women's national cricket team, known as the White Ferns, and was also a member of the Black Sticks Women, the national field hockey side. She has since focused her career on cricket.

Devine is recognised for batting without a helmet, a rarity in 21st-century cricket. In December 2017, she was named in the ICC Women's T20I Team of the Year. In August 2018, she was awarded a central contract by New Zealand Cricket, following tours of Ireland and England in the months prior.

In October 2018, Devine was named in New Zealand's squad for the ICC Women's World Twenty20 tournament held in the West Indies, and was identified as a key player in the side ahead of the competition. In July 2020, she was appointed as the full-time captain of the New Zealand women's cricket team, taking over the role from Amy Satterthwaite. In September 2021, during the second match of a series against England, she featured in her 100th Women's Twenty20 International.
