The tehsil of Sohawal is one of the administrative subdivisions under the Ayodhya district administration. Following the renaming of Faizabad district to Ayodhya district by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Sohawal continues to function as a tehsil within the reorganised district.

The economy of the Sohawal area is predominantly agrarian. Common crops grown in the surrounding villages include paddy, wheat, sugarcane, and pulses. Local trade, small-scale enterprises, and government services contribute to the town's economic life. Hindi and Awadhi are the prevalent languages.

Connectivity

Sohawal is connected by road to Ayodhya, Faizabad city, and other towns of the district. The nearest major railway and air connectivity is available through Ayodhya, which has been developed as a significant transport node owing to its religious and tourist importance.
