Overview
Sir C R Reddy College of Engineering is an engineering institution located in Eluru, in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is part of the Sir C R Reddy group of educational institutions, which has long been associated with higher and professional education in the Eluru region. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in core and contemporary branches of engineering and technology, and serves students primarily from coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas.
The institution is named after Sir Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy, an eminent educationist, writer, and the first Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University. The group of colleges established in his memory includes a degree college, a postgraduate college, a polytechnic, and the engineering college, all of which operate within the broader educational ecosystem of Eluru.

Background
Eluru, the headquarters of West Godavari district (and later of the reorganised Eluru district), has a long tradition in education due in part to the legacy of Sir C R Reddy and the trust that runs institutions in his name. The engineering college was set up to meet the growing demand for technical education in the Godavari belt, where students earlier had to migrate to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, or Hyderabad for professional courses. Over the years, the college has grown into one of the larger technical institutions in the district.
Academics
The college offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) programmes in several disciplines. Branches commonly offered at such institutions, and reflected in the college's academic structure, include:
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Information Technology
Postgraduate programmes are available in selected branches, typically leading to the Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree in specialisations such as structural engineering, power systems, communication systems, and computer science. Programmes generally follow the curriculum and academic regulations of the affiliating university, with semester-based assessment, internal evaluations, and end-semester examinations.
Affiliation and regulation
As an Andhra Pradesh based engineering college, the institution functions within the regulatory framework of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is affiliated to the relevant state technical university for academic purposes. Course content and intake are governed by the affiliating university and applicable regulatory norms.
Campus and facilities
The campus is located within Eluru and houses academic blocks for various engineering departments, administrative offices, laboratories, and support infrastructure. Typical facilities include:
- Department-wise laboratories and workshops for practical instruction
- A central library with engineering texts, reference works, and journals
- Computer centres with internet access for student use
- Seminar halls and auditoria for academic and cultural programmes
- Sports grounds and indoor games facilities
- Hostel accommodation for outstation students
- Canteen and transport arrangements
Admissions
Admissions to undergraduate engineering programmes are made primarily through the Andhra Pradesh Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (AP EAPCET, formerly EAMCET), conducted by the state higher education authorities. A portion of seats is filled under the management quota as permitted by the regulations. Postgraduate admissions to M.Tech. programmes are based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and the state-level PGECET, in line with the convention followed by AICTE-approved institutions.
Student life
Student activities at the college include technical symposia, departmental association events, cultural festivals, and sports meets. Departments often host workshops, guest lectures, and project exhibitions, and students participate in inter-collegiate competitions in technical and cultural categories. Professional student chapters affiliated with bodies such as the Institution of Engineers (India), IEEE, ISTE, and CSI are commonly active in engineering colleges of this type, providing platforms for paper presentations, coding contests, and field visits.
