Background

Sintex Industries originated as a textile manufacturer in Gujarat and later diversified into plastic processing. Its plastics division grew to encompass moulded products such as water tanks, prefabricated structures, doors, sub-ground storage solutions, and industrial custom moulding. The brand "Sintex" became strongly identified with rotomoulded and blow-moulded plastic water tanks in India, particularly the black three-layer overhead tank widely seen on rooftops in towns and cities.

Corporate restructuring

The company undertook a corporate restructuring under which the plastics business and the textiles business were separated into distinct listed entities. The plastics operations were demerged into Sintex Plastics Technology, with subsidiaries handling the custom moulding and prefabricated/infrastructure businesses, while Sintex Industries continued primarily as a textiles company focused on yarn and fabric manufacturing, including a large spinning project in Gujarat.

Financial difficulties

In later years, Sintex Industries and its associated entities faced significant debt-related stress, leading to insolvency proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code in India. The textiles company underwent a resolution process resulting in a change of ownership through a successful resolution plan approved by creditors and the National Company Law Tribunal.
