Geography
Sidlaphadi is situated in Bagalkot district, which forms part of the semi-arid northern Karnataka plateau. The district is drained chiefly by the Malaprabha and Ghataprabha rivers, both tributaries of the Krishna. The terrain in the surrounding region is characterised by undulating plains, sandstone outcrops and scrubland typical of the Deccan.

Bagalkot district is widely known for its concentration of heritage sites associated with the Badami Chalukyas, including the rock-cut temples and monuments at Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal. The region also contains prehistoric rock shelters and natural sandstone formations, of which a notable example in the area is the Sidlaphadi natural rock bridge near Badami, often visited as part of the Badami heritage circuit.
