Overview
Shivaji University is a state university located at Kolhapur in Maharashtra, India. Established in 1962, it is named in honour of Chhatrapati Shivaji. The institution was inaugurated on 18 November 1962 by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was then the President of India.
The setting up of the university was led by Yashwantrao Chavan and Balasaheb Desai, who played a key role in its foundation. The university serves as a higher education centre in the Kolhapur region of western Maharashtra.
The campus is spread over an area of about 853 acres (345 hectares).
