Background
Shaheer Sheikh was born on 26 March 1984 in Bhaderwah, a town in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. He spent his early years in Jammu before moving to other cities for education. He completed a degree in law and later studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), where he developed an interest in modelling and entered the entertainment industry through commercials and print campaigns.
Career
Early work
Sheikh began his on-screen career with the Star One series Kya Mast Hai Life in 2009, where he played the role of Vir. He followed this with appearances in shows such as Maha Kumbh: Ek Rahasaya, Ek Kahani and earned a recurring presence on Indian television.
Breakthrough
His breakthrough came with Navya..Naye Dhadkan Naye Sawaal (2011–2012) on Star Plus, in which he played Anant Bajpai opposite Somya Seth. The show, produced by Director's Kut Productions, helped establish him as a leading actor in the daily soap genre.
Mahabharat and pan-Asian recognition
From 2013 to 2014, Sheikh portrayed Arjun in Star Plus's mythological series Mahabharat, produced by Swastik Productions. The role brought him significant fame across India and abroad. The show's success in Indonesia, where it was dubbed and broadcast on ANTV, made him a popular figure in that country. He went on to act in Indonesian productions, including the romantic series Cinta di Langit Taj Mahal.
Later television work
He played Dev Dixit, a Marwari businessman, in Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi opposite Erica Fernandes. The show aired on Sony Entertainment Television and ran across multiple seasons (2016–2017, 2017, and 2021). He later appeared in Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke (2019–2021) on Star Plus as Abir Rajvansh, opposite Rhea Sharma.
Web and other appearances
Sheikh participated in dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9 in 2016. He has appeared in music videos and made his Hindi feature film foray with Do Patti (2024), produced by Kriti Sanon's production house and released on Netflix, alongside Kajol and Kriti Sanon.
Personal life
Shaheer Sheikh married Ruchikaa Kapoor, a senior executive associated with Balaji Telefilms, in November 2020 in a registered ceremony. The couple welcomed a daughter, Anaya, in September 2021.
