Shahbaz Nadeem is an Indian first-class cricketer who plays as a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He has primarily represented Jharkhand in domestic cricket and has been one of the most prolific wicket-takers in the Ranji Trophy in the modern era. Nadeem made his Test debut for India in 2019 and has also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for franchises including Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Born in Muzaffarpur in Bihar, Nadeem moved through age-group cricket in the state before the bifurcation of cricketing regions led him to represent Jharkhand at the senior domestic level. Domestic career

In limited-overs domestic cricket, Nadeem registered one of the standout performances in List A history when he took 8 wickets for 10 runs against Rajasthan in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, the best bowling figures in a List A innings at the time.

Indian Premier League

Nadeem was first signed by Delhi Daredevils, with whom he spent several seasons. He later played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he had extended runs in the playing XI, and subsequently appeared for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the IPL he has been used primarily as a containing left-arm spinner in the middle overs.

International career

After years of consistent domestic returns, Nadeem was rewarded with national selection. He made his Twenty20 International debut in 2019. He earned his Test cap in October 2019 against South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, replacing the injured Kuldeep Yadav for the third Test of the series. He picked up wickets in both innings on debut.

He was recalled to the Test side in early 2021 against England in Chennai, where he played in the opening Test of the series. He has also been part of India's wider squads during home seasons that featured spin-friendly conditions.

Style of play

Nadeem is known for his control, stamina and ability to bowl long spells without leaking runs. He generates flight and uses a slightly flatter trajectory on responsive surfaces, depending on the arm ball and a quicker delivery as wicket-taking options against right-handers. His batting lower down the order has occasionally been useful in domestic cricket.

Significance

Nadeem is regarded as one of the most consistent left-arm spinners in Indian domestic cricket of his generation.
