Overview

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), formerly known as the University of Pune, is a public state university located in Pune, India. It was established in 1949 and is named after the social reformer and educationist Savitribai Phule.

The university campus is situated in the neighbourhood of Ganeshkhind and is spread over an area of 411 acres (1.66 square kilometres). It serves as one of the prominent centres of higher education in the state of Maharashtra.

SPPU houses 46 academic departments engaged in teaching and research across a range of disciplines. In addition, the university has approximately 307 recognised research institutes and 612 affiliated colleges that offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
