Sanjay Paswan

Overview

Dr. Sanjay Mahavir Ram Paswan (born 2 May 1962) is an Indian politician affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as Minister of State for Human Resource Development in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led Union government. He was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from the Nawada constituency in Bihar.

Paswan has held senior organisational responsibilities within the BJP, including a tenure as National President of the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha. He is presently a national executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. On 6 May 2018, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) in Bihar, representing the BJP.

His political career has included association with multiple parties. He contested the 2005 Bihar Assembly Election on a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ticket but was unsuccessful. Over the years, he was associated with the RJD, the Indian National Congress and the Lok Janshakti Party, before returning to the BJP in 2008.

Apart from his political work, Paswan is an author who has written and contributed to several books. Among his works, the Encyclopedia of Dalits is regarded as a notable contribution. His brother, Ajay Paswan, served as Mayor of the Darbhanga Municipal Corporation from 2007 to 2011.
