Role of the umpire
An on-field umpire is responsible for adjudicating decisions on the field of play, applying the Laws of Cricket as approved by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) together with the playing conditions specified by the relevant governing body. Duties include ruling on dismissals, monitoring fair play, judging no-balls and wides, and managing the flow of the match in coordination with a colleague at the other end and, where applicable, a third umpire and match referee.
