SRM Institute of Science and Technology, formerly known as SRM University, is a co-educational private deemed-to-be university with its main campus at Kattankulathur in the Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu, India. Background

The institution traces its origins to SRM Engineering College, established at Kattankulathur on the southern outskirts of Chennai. Located along the Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST Road), the Kattankulathur campus grew over the years to include faculties in engineering and technology, medicine and health sciences, management, science and humanities, and law. The college was subsequently granted deemed-to-be university status by the Government of India on the recommendation of the UGC, and was operated under the name SRM University before being renamed SRM Institute of Science and Technology.
