Rohit Gurunath Sharma who was born on 30th of April in the year 1987, is a famous Indian cricketer and the current captain of the Indian national cricket team. He is known for his stylish batting, calm leadership, and ability to score big runs in important matches. Rohit is especially famous for being one of the best limited-overs batsmen in the world and holds several world records in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 cricket.

Rohit Sharma married his childhood friend Ritika Sajdeh, a sports manager, in December 2015. The couple has a daughter named Samaira, born in December 2018. The couple has recently welcomed their ‘Baby Boy’ into the world. Rohit is known to be a family-oriented person and often shares moments with his wife and daughter on social media.
Early Life and Childhood -
Rohit Sharma was born in Bansod, a small town in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. His father’s name is Gurunath Sharma who had worked as a caretaker at a transport company storehouse, and his mother, Purnima Sharma, was a homemaker. Rohit comes from a humble, middle-class family and was raised by his grandparents and uncles in Borivali, Mumbai, because his parents couldn’t afford to raise him in Mumbai at that time.
Rohit’s interest in cricket started at a young age. His uncles encouraged him to join a cricket camp when he was around 11 years old. He trained under coach Dinesh Lad, who noticed his talent and supported him. Coach Lad even arranged for Rohit to get a scholarship at Swami Vivekanand International School, where he could practice and play cricket while studying.
Beginning of Cricket Career -
Rohit started his cricket journey as an off-spinner (a type of bowler) who could also bat a little. However, his coach soon realised that Rohit had the potential to become a great batsman and encouraged him to focus more on his batting.
He played in school tournaments and performed so well that he was selected for Mumbai’s Under-17 and Under-19 teams. His impressive performances in domestic cricket helped him move quickly up the ranks. Rohit made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 2006 and soon after got a chance to represent India in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup.
International Debut -
Rohit Sharma made his T20 International debut in September 2007 against England during the inaugural T20 World Cup. He played a crucial innings against South Africa, helping India reach the semifinals and eventually win the tournament. His ODI debut came in June 2007 against Ireland. Though he didn’t bat in that match, he got his opportunity soon after and started showing his skills.
Rohit made his Test debut later in 2013 against the West Indies and scored a brilliant 177 runs in his very first match, making it one of the highest scores by an Indian player on Test debut.
Captaincy and Leadership -
Rohit Sharma has proven himself as a successful leader as well. He has been the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2013 and has led them to five IPL titles, the most by any team in IPL history.
