Overview
Rituparna Sengupta is an Indian actress and producer known for her work in Bengali, Odia and Hindi cinema. Regarded as one of the most successful actresses in Bengali cinema, she enjoyed considerable box office success during the late 1990s.
Sengupta began her screen career with the Bengali fantasy television series Rong Berong (1989), broadcast on DD Bangla, in which she appeared opposite Arindam Ganguly. She was initially promoted as a contemporary in the mould of Satabdi Roy. Her first feature film was Bahattar Din Par (1990), opposite Arjun Chakraborty. She made her Hindi cinema debut in Partho Ghosh's Teesra Kaun (1994).
Over the course of her career, Sengupta has featured in several National Award-winning Bengali films, including Shwet Patharer Thala (1992), Lathi (1996), Dahan (1997), Paromitar Ek Din (2000), Mondo Meyer Upakhyan (2002) and Anuranan (2006). Alongside acting, she has also worked as a producer.
Her accolades include a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards, four BFJA Awards and four Anandalok Awards, recognising her contributions to Indian cinema across multiple languages.
