Overview

Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), formerly known as Raksha Shakti University, is a public central university and autonomous institute located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. The university specialises in fields related to national security, including cyber security, digital forensics, and internal security. It functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and is recognised as an Institution of National Importance.

The university was originally established by the Government of Gujarat in 2009. It was inaugurated on 22 July 2010 by Narendra Modi, who was then the Chief Minister of Gujarat. In 2020, through Act 31 of the Parliament of India, the Government of India took over the institution from the Government of Gujarat, upgrading it to a national university with the status of an Institution of National Importance under the Rashtriya Raksha University Act.

RRU offers a range of academic programmes, including undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree courses, along with professional diploma and certificate programmes oriented towards security and allied disciplines. Ajit Doval is among the members of the university's board.
