Overview

Ranjit Mallick (born 28 September 1944) is an Indian actor and producer who works predominantly in Bengali cinema. With a career spanning more than five decades, he is regarded as one of the prominent figures in the history of Bengali film industry, having appeared in both mainstream and parallel cinema.

Mallick is popularly referred to as "Pratibadi Nayak", a Bengali phrase meaning "The Rebellious Hero", a sobriquet drawn from the nature of several of his on-screen roles. Over the years, he has worked across a wide variety of films, balancing commercial productions with works of artistic note.

In recognition of his contribution to cinema, Mallick has received honours including BFJA Awards, WBFJA Awards and Filmfare Awards. In addition to his work as an actor and producer, he served as the Sheriff of Kolkata for the year 2014.
