Overview
Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI), formerly known as Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University or simply Vivekananda University, is a deemed-to-be-university headquartered at Belur in West Bengal. The institute is administered by the Ramakrishna Mission, the monastic and philanthropic order founded in the tradition of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda.
The institute was established with the aim of actualising Swami Vivekananda's vision of education, which emphasised the all-round development of the human personality alongside academic learning. Its activities are spread across multiple campuses located in different states of India, allowing it to engage with diverse regional and community contexts.
RKMVERI offers courses across a range of disciplines. Its academic programmes include studies in rural and tribal development, disability management and special education, fundamental science education, and Indian cultural and spiritual heritage. This combination of applied social work, scientific enquiry and cultural studies reflects the broader educational philosophy with which the institution is associated.
