Background

The Ramaiah group of educational institutions was founded by M. S. Ramaiah, an industrialist and philanthropist, beginning with M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology in the 1960s. Over the following decades, the group expanded into medicine, dental sciences, nursing, management, law and the arts, with most institutions located in the Mathikere–MSR Nagar area of north-western Bengaluru. RUAS was created to consolidate several of these specialised schools under a single university framework with an applied, industry-oriented academic model.

Establishment

RUAS was constituted as a private university by an Act of the Karnataka State Legislature, giving it the authority to award its own degrees. The university adopted a faculty-and-school structure inspired by the applied sciences universities of continental Europe, emphasising project-based learning, industry engagement and integration of research with professional practice.
