The business traces its origins to a small computer service venture started by Kailash Katkar in Pune in the late 1980s, focused on repair and maintenance of calculators and ledger machines, and subsequently personal computers. His younger brother Sanjay Katkar, a computer science graduate, developed an early antivirus utility to address the spread of file infectors on Indian PCs. The product was branded Quick Heal and sold to local customers, eventually becoming the focus of the company.

The corporate entity was incorporated as CAT Computer Services, and was later renamed Quick Heal Technologies. Kailash Katkar serves as the company's Chairman and Managing Director, while Sanjay Katkar has led product and technology functions.

Significance

Quick Heal is one of the few Indian-origin antivirus vendors to achieve a sustained presence in a market dominated by international security firms. Its growth from a small Pune-based service shop into a publicly listed cybersecurity company is frequently cited in discussions of Indian software product entrepreneurship. Through the Seqrite brand, the company also participates in India's broader push for indigenous cybersecurity capability for government, defence-adjacent, and enterprise customers.
