Background and Early Life
Priyanka Chopra was born on 18 July 1982 in Jamshedpur to a Punjabi Hindu family. Her parents, Ashok and Madhu Chopra, served as doctors in the Indian Army, and the family relocated frequently across postings in cities such as Delhi, Pune, Lucknow, Bareilly, Ladakh, and Leh. She has a younger brother, Siddharth Chopra. Owing to her father's transfers, she studied at La Martiniere Girls' School in Lucknow and Army Public School in Bareilly. As a teenager she lived for three years in the United States with relatives, attending schools in Newton, Massachusetts and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before returning to India to complete her schooling.
Pageantry
Chopra entered the May Femina Miss India contest in 2000, where she was placed second and won the Femina Miss India World title. She subsequently represented India at the Miss World 2000 pageant held in London on 30 November 2000, winning the crown as well as the Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty – Asia and Oceania title.

Early career (2002–2007)
She made her acting debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan (2002) opposite Vijay, before her Hindi film debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003). She received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for Andaaz (2003). Her early successful films included Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and Krrish (2006). For her negative role in Aitraaz (2004), she won the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.
Mainstream success (2008–2015)
Chopra received the National Film Award for Best Actress for portraying a troubled supermodel in Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion (2008). She followed this with Dostana (2008), Kaminey (2009), What's Your Raashee? (2009, in which she played twelve characters), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Don 2 (2011), Barfi! (2012), Agneepath (2012), Mary Kom (2014), in which she played the Manipuri boxer M. C. Mary Kom, and Bajirao Mastani (2015), where her portrayal of Kashibai earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
