Overview

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) is a medical institution located in Chandigarh, India. It has been designated an 'Institute of National Importance' and offers educational, research, and training facilities across all specialties, super specialties, and sub-specialties of medicine.

PGIMER serves as a leading tertiary care hospital in the northern India region. It receives patients from across Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, and provides clinical services in a wide range of medical disciplines.

In addition to its clinical role, the institute offers training in nearly all disciplines of medicine. Programmes include postgraduate and post-doctoral degrees, diplomas, the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), and fellowships. The institute hosts more than 50 such training courses across its departments.

An MBBS college with 100 seats is planned to commence at PGIMER's satellite centre, expected to begin by 2025.
