Background
Krishnamurthy emerged through the Hyderabad cricketing system, which during his playing era produced several notable cricketers including Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, Abbas Ali Baig, M. L. Jaisimha and Abid Ali. He established himself in the state side as a specialist wicketkeeper.
Career
Krishnamurthy played first-class cricket for Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy and turned out for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy. He was selected as a wicketkeeper for the Indian team's tour of the West Indies in 1970–71 under the captaincy of Ajit Wadekar, the tour on which India recorded its first Test series victory over the West Indies. He served on that tour as a reserve wicketkeeper to Syed Kirmani and others, although he did not appear in a Test match.
Significance
While Krishnamurthy did not earn a Test cap, his selection for the historic 1970–71 West Indies tour places him among the small group of Indian wicketkeepers considered for international duty during a transitional phase in Indian cricket, between the Farokh Engineer era and the long tenure of Syed Kirmani.
