Overview

Piyush Vedprakash Goyal (born 13 June 1964) is an Indian politician serving as the 13th Minister of Commerce and Industry, a portfolio he has held since 2019. He was elevated to Cabinet Minister rank on 3 September 2017. He has additionally served as Minister of Textiles and Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and held additional charge of the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Affairs on two occasions, in 2018 and 2019.

Goyal was earlier Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal, and New & Renewable Energy from 2014 to 2017, and also held the Mines portfolio between 2016 and 2017. He was a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing Maharashtra and served as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. In the general elections to the 18th Lok Sabha, he was elected from the Mumbai North constituency.

Within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Goyal previously served as National Treasurer. He headed the party's Information Communication Campaign Committee, overseeing publicity, advertising and social media outreach during the 2014 Indian general elections. He is a recipient of the 2018 Carnot Prize, awarded for distinguished contributions to energy policy.

Goyal is married to Seema Goyal, and the couple have two children, Dhruv Goyal and Radhika Goyal.
