Overview
Pieter Marinus Seelaar (born 2 July 1987) is a Dutch cricketer and a former captain of the Netherlands national team. A right-handed batsman and left-arm orthodox spin bowler, he represented the Netherlands across age-group levels, featuring at Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 cricket before progressing to the senior side.
Seelaar made his senior debut in a C&G Trophy match against Warwickshire on 3 May 2005, and went on to play in the ICC Trophy later that year. He made his One Day International debut against Sri Lanka on 6 July 2006. Two years later, he played his first Twenty20 International for the Netherlands, establishing himself as a regular member of the squad.
In April 2018, Seelaar was appointed captain of the national team, succeeding Peter Borren, who had retired from international cricket. He led the Netherlands across formats during his tenure as captain.
In June 2022, during the Netherlands' home series against England, Seelaar announced his retirement from international cricket as a result of a long-term back injury that had affected his ability to continue playing at the top level.
