Overview
Pema Khandu (born 21 August 1979) is an Indian politician serving as the 9th and current Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh since 2016. He also serves as the Leader of the House in the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He is the son of Dorjee Khandu, who earlier served as Chief Minister of the state.
Before taking charge as Chief Minister, Pema Khandu held the portfolios of Tourism, Urban Development and Water Resources in the state government led by Nabam Tuki.
Khandu assumed the office of Chief Minister in July 2016. During his tenure, he and his government have shifted party affiliations on two occasions. In September 2016, they moved from the Indian National Congress to the People's Party of Arunachal. Subsequently, in December 2016, the affiliation was changed to the Bharatiya Janata Party, under which Khandu has continued to lead the state government.
