Overview

Aththachchi Nuwan Pradeep Roshan Fernando (born 19 October 1986), commonly known as Nuwan Pradeep, is a Sri Lankan former international cricketer. A right-arm fast bowler, he has continued to feature in domestic Twenty20 cricket, turning out for the Dambulla Sixers franchise in the Lanka Premier League.

Pradeep's path to international cricket is considered among the most unusual in Sri Lankan cricket. He had not played organised cricket until he was 20 years old, and had never bowled with a leather ball before that age. His emergence followed a bowling speed contest in 2007, after which he was inducted into Sri Lanka's Cricket Academy.

Within less than three years of taking up the game seriously, Pradeep earned a call-up to the national Test side. On account of this unconventional journey from a non-cricketing background to the international stage, he is widely regarded as one of the most unusual discoveries in Sri Lankan cricket.
