Background

The institution traces its origin to the educational initiatives of the Noorul Islam Educational Trust, which established a college of engineering at Kumaracoil to serve students from the southern districts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining regions of Kerala. Over time, the campus expanded with additional schools covering management, computing, pharmacy, arts and sciences, and was subsequently granted deemed-to-be university status by the Government of India under the recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
